With thousands of visitors (for business and leisure) from across the world knocking at its doors every day, Dubai is no doubt a bubbling city.
The influx of tourists and people on business trips calls for befitting accommodations, which are not lacking either. From Burj Al Arab, the world’s most luxurious hotel, to Madinat Jumeirah, Dubai’s Arabian Five Star Resort, to Wild Wadi Water Park, and to the multi-award winning Jumeirah Beach Hotel, Dubai’s hospitality industry is a burgeoning one. To cater to the growing service need of the industry, Jumeirah Group, owner/manager of numerous luxury hotel properties in Dubai and across the globe, is raising the bar in hospitality service delivery and management with its Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management.
The Academy specialises in the award of business management degrees with a hospitality focus. It also aims to become the world’s leading hospitality management school. Located in Dubai, a city that is globally recognised as a hub of hospitality and tourism, The Emirates Academy stretches alongside sister properties such as the Burj Al Arab, Madinat Jumeirah, Wild Wadi Water Park, and Jumeirah Beach Hotel. As an integral part of the Jumeirah Group, students are able to gain firsthand experience through internships and building relationships with people in the industry. The Academy also works closely with other international hotel chains. This enables its graduates to be well placed for future careers and also to be consistently sought after by the hospitality industry. It is also in academic association with Ecole Hôtelière de Lausanne (EHL) in Switzerland, the oldest and most respected hospitality school in the world. The affiliation guarantees sustainable quality of all the study programmes on offer.
In addition, The Academy is accredited by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in the United Arab Emirates, the Institute of Hospitality in the United Kingdom, and THE-ICE (The International Centre of Excellence in Tourism and Hospitality Education) in Australia. These international accreditations of The Academy’s study programmes further add to the employability of its graduates. With internationally-recognised study programmes, highly respected faculty members drawn from all over the world, state-of-the-art infrastructure, modern facilities, strong partnerships within the hospitality industry and proximity to some of the best hotels in the world, The Academy truly is at the heart of hospitality.
The Academy provides an abundance of exciting career opportunities for its graduates. Its programmes include Bachelor of Science (Hons) in International Hospitality Management (3 years), Associate of Science in International Hospitality Operations (18 months), and Master of Science in International Hospitality Management (1 year). The three-year bachelor’s degree with honours is the highest level of undergraduate qualification any student can obtain. An honours degree enables one to pre-qualify for entry into a range of postgraduate degrees too. The Associate of Science degree is a one-and-a-half-year programme consisting of the first five trimesters of the Bachelor of Science degree. This programme provides one with a foundation of essential skills required for a supervisory position in the hospitality industry. One will receive a thorough introduction to food production, restaurant operations, front office and room division operations as well as basic and introductory business and management subjects.
The Academy offers the first fully accredited masters degree in the Gulf Region. The programme is accredited in the UAE, UK and Australia. Senior hospitality executives from around the world have contributed to the content and design of this course and it is recognized globally by leading universities and the hospitality industry. Studying in Dubai, according to the management of The Academy, exposes students and even graduates to the highest density of five-star hotels in the world, fantastic internship opportunities, interaction with students from more than 60 different nationalities, and full academic credit transfers to students’ home universities.
The Academy starts in January, April or September. Students who study at The Academy for up to one academic year will also have the option of participating in its internship programme at any of its five-star hotel partners for a minimum of 10 weeks in five star hotels and companies such as Jumeirah Group, Emirates Airlines, Intercontinental Hotels Group, Hyatt International, Kempinski, Starwood Hotels, Hilton Worldwide, Mariott International, Ritz Carlton, Fairmont Raffles, Accor Group, Shangri-La, Armani Hotels, The Parker Company, among others. “A period spent abroad within a degree programme through study and/or an internship is a great way of developing and broadening your horizons. Our Study Abroad programme offers you a fabulous opportunity to experience another culture and study at a prestigious hospitality management university,” the management concluded.
